LW Pool Club Pool-a-thon will be May 24 in CH 2

The LW Pool Club will hold its annual Pool-a-thon on Saturday, May 24, at 1:30 p.m., in Clubhouse 2. This is the second year of this event for A and B level players. Although eightball is by far the most popular pool game in LW, there are other games that professional players compete in at big tournaments. The Pool-a-thon will consist of two games of eight-ball, nineball, straight pool and one pocket, and one game of bank pool. The straight pool games will be the first to 15 balls. In the one pocket games, only nine balls will be racked and the first player to make five balls in their pocket wins. In the one bank pool game, nine balls will break, and the first player to make three called bank shots wins. This is good practice for the advanced players because each game takes different skills.

The club had its monthly tournament on May 12. This month it was eight-ball and the top 12 players drew names for their partner in the seven round event.

After three rounds, Phuoc Tran and Dave Silva were the only undefeated team. However, they lost game four to Ron Kennedy and Connie Adkins. Although the eight ball was hanging in the corner pocket, Kennedy was able to squeeze his last ball past the eight while leaving the eight in front of the pocket for his partner to win the game. It was the shot of the night.

After seven rounds, Gary Snow and John Burns were tied with Silva and Tran at six wins and one loss. The only loss Snow and Burns had was to Tran and Silva. In the tie-breaker, after a battle of safety shots on both sides, Silva made a long cut shot on the eight for his team to take first place. Steve Edrich and Sal LaScala took third place.
