LW Men’s Golf League has prize pool for players
Six members of the Leisure World Men’s Golf League competed at the par 71, 5,600 yard Meadowlark Golf Course in Huntington Beach on May 2.
With numerous water hazards, elevation changes and turtleback greens, distance control was key to scoring well on this course. Only three of the six players scored net below, but there were six birdies—two by Kyle Van and one each by Sam Choi, Clay Fischer, Jae Choi and Dave LaCascia.
Van had the fewest putts, Choi was closest to the pin on the 140 yard par 3 seventh hole, and LaCascia was closest on the 150 yard par 3 16th.
Winners (net score: gross minus handicap): Van and Choi, 5 under par 66, first place; Clay Fischer, even par, second; Jae Choi, third; Gary Stivers and LaCascia, fourth.
On May 5, 12 league golfers visited the par 62 David L. Baker Executive Golf Course in Fountain Valley.
The course was in good condition although wet during the first 90 minutes of play. Ten of the golfers shot net at or under par with a 9 under 53 by Jae Choi.
There were nine birdies— two each by Jim Goltra and Jae Choi—and Sam Choi, Dave LaCascia, Sergio Borbon, Chris Lankford and Bill McKusky each had one. Gary Stivers and Borbon had fewest putts for the round. Closest to the pin on the 110 yard par 3 third hole was Stivers, and Jae Choi was closest on the 130 yard par 3 12th.
A flight winners: Jae Choi, first place; Sam Choi, 4 under 58, second; LaCascia and Stivers, third; Lankford, fourth; Goltra, Clay Fischer and McKusky, fifth.
B flight winners: Dom Bautista, 7 under 55, first place; Tom Ross, 4 under 58, second; Borbon, third; Duke Park and Bill McKusky, fourth.
The Monday and Friday golf leagues play at four local courses, all within 15-20 minutes of Leisure World. These courses are always quite full, so advance league reservations are required with a sign-up sheet available at each round.
There is a prize pool for each round that players are not obligated to enter. Rewards are given for low net in each flight, birdies, closest to the pin on two par 3s, and for the lowest number of putts in each flight. Holes-in-one and eagles (two under par) are rewarded. Those interested in playing can contact Gary Stivers at 714-313-3697 or Dave LaCascia at 801-674-5975.
