Shotgun/Scramble Golf Tournament

Fifty-four golfers from the Leisure World men’s and women’s golf leagues played in a special shotgun/scramble tournament on April 30 at the par 54 Turtle Lake Golf Course. Nine teams of six players teed off at 8 a.m. with the goal of having the lowest gross score of the day.

Considering the above average playing conditions, it was not surprising that each team achieved a well-below-par score. There were no holes-in-one but there were several close shots, 13 circle hole winners and numerous birdies. Closest to the pin on No. 6 and 15 holes respectively were James Farr and Bob Barnum for the men and Stella Yoon and Karen Mendon for the women. A special raffle of a $50 gift card to Roger Dunn’s was won by Rolando Ramirez.

Two teams tied at 9 under par 45 for first place: Team 1 included Daniel Mahoney, Ann Tran, Young Lee, Mike Mayfield (Capt.), Eulia Kim and Kevin Lindstedt; Team 2 included Bob Turner, Dennis Jensen, Pam Krug, Steve Walker (Capt.), John Rudosky and Stella Yoon.

Two teams tied at 8 under 46 for second place: Team 1 included Dave LaCascia (Capt.), Karen Mendon, JoAnn Lim, Rolando Ramirez, Marv Jones and Ryan Hong; Team 2 included Tom Owens (Capt.), Liz Meripol, Dale Williamson, Hyon Shin, Lee Broadbent and Carmen Daeley.

Two teams tied at 7 under 47 for third place: Team 1 included Alan Sewell (Capt.), Ron Steele, Art Salazar, Bert Thompson, Kay Hong and Judi Ornoff; Team 2 included Pat Paternoster (Capt.), Jun Um, Jon Russell, James Farr, Mary Ann Moore and Margie Thompson.

Special thanks to Ron Steele for setting up the event and being the tournament director; Bob Turner for bringing the donuts; and Scott Tuchfarber/ Steve Walker for coffee setup and clean-up. Appreciation to starter Jae Lee for announcing the tournament, and the maintenance team for their great job in getting the course ready for play.
