Jack O’Brien earns top points at Shuffl eboard Club’s ham shoot challenge

The Shuffleboard Club held its annual ham shoot on April 16. It was a huge success with 32 people attending. Each of the six lanes were set up with a different challenge. On one lane, players had to hit the puck under the pig to score 10 additional points. In another lane, players had to hit blind under the shuffleboard sign, using their opposite hand. In lane three, players ricocheted off two side boards before scoring. Another challenge was trying to score without knocking small bowling pins down. A favorite challenge was hitting the puck through the scoring area, hitting the back bumper and coming back into the court to score. The final task was to land on lines to score 10 points each. Twenty-seven participants vied for cash prizes. Top point winner was Jack O’Brien, followed by Eileen Kotecki and Harold Morehead. Morehead also won the cash prize for picking O’Brien’s number to win. Several consolation prizes of shuffleboard necklaces, made by Rod Osgood, were handed out.

In Thursday league week two results, Team Jack edged out Team Lynne 7-5. All-game winners for Team Jack were Carol Schubeck, Lynn Baidack and Devon James. Team Lynne allgame winners were subs Minda Burkschab and Sue Burkschab. Team Kay bested Team Anita 8-4. All-game winners for Team Kay were Eileen Kotecki and Marilyn Blackmun. Team Anita’s all-game winner was sub Patti Nemnich.

In Friday league action, Team Sally edged out Team Shel 7-5. Team Sally all-game winners were Roger Bennett and Doris Morton. Team Shel’s all-game winners were Harold Morehead and Harshad Patel. Team Patti had a fabulous day, beating Team Carol 11-1. Team Patti all-game winners were Rod Osgood, Sal LaScala, Micki Aiello, Steve Edrich and Patti Nemnich.

Tuesday night’s matches for week three were all close. Team Harold and Team Sally tied 6-6. All-game winner for Team Sally was Sally Fowler. Team Harold’s all-game winners were Sandy Derouin and Lynne Haines. Team Bob edged out Team Sue 7-5. Team Bob all-game winners were Linda Evenson, Bob Patterson and Lynn Baidack. All-game winners for Team Sue were Susan Hopewell and Elizabeth Martinez.
