First Christian Church
First Christian Church of Leisure World teaches from God’s word, the Holy Bible, most often verse by verse. It is a friendly church that welcomes all visitors to join in worship and explore God’s word together. Join the church for special service when all Christians recognize the death, burial, and resurrection of the Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Pastor’s Message
In Zechariah 9:9, the prophet prophesied, “Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your King is coming to you; He is just and having salvation, lowly and riding on a donkey, a colt, the foal of a donkey.” All four gospels recorded the fulfillment of Zechariah’s prophecy. As Jesus made his descent down the Mount of Olives, riding on a lowly donkey instead of a great horse, as most kings rode, the multitudes that had gathered spread their clothes and palm branches on the road and began to shout “Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven and glory in the highest.”
Jesus, for the first time, openly accepts the honor, praise, and worship of the multitudes. The Pharisees were infuriated and demanded Jesus to rebuke the multitudes for their praise, and Jesus said, “I tell you that if these should keep silent, the stones would immediately cry out,” Luke 19:40. This was a strong claim of his deity.
As Holy Week begins with Palm Sunday, April 13, believers will hear the shouts praising him turn to shouts of “crucify him.” Holy Week will end on Resurrection Sunday, April 20, when Christ rises from the dead.
