Shot challenge ends in tie
LW POOL CLUB
The annual Mike Mooney Eight Ball Tournament was held on March 22 in Clubhouse 2. Mike Mooney was president of the Leisure World Pool Club for a number of years. Mooney was good at making bank shots, so once a year the club gives a prize to the player who can make the most called bank shots. This year the prize was $100.
There were 12 two-person teams competing over seven rounds for the first three places and the bank pool prize. Since the club is going to Laguna Woods to play their pool team soon, it was decided to play this tournament by the Laguna Wood rules, which means players had to call every ball in a specific pocket.
After four rounds of play, John Barth and Paul Ivanoff led with four wins, but after seven rounds they were tied with Paul Shellenberger and Linda Patton at six wins apiece. Barth and Ivanoff won the playoff game to take first place. Brian Burke and Connie Terry took third place.
In the race for who made the most called bank shots, after the full seven games there was a three-way tie for first place between Barth, Steve Mitchell and Steve Edrich with three banks each.
