LW MEN'S GOLF CLUB

On March 12, after nearly a month long wait due to weather rain outs, 62 men met on the overcast and damp par 54 Turtle Lake Golf Course. The men competed for best scores (gross score minus handicap), plus four circle holes (shots within a 5-foot radius rewarded), and two closest to the pin challenges. The skies never cleared, but there was no wind.

Considering the dampness, the golf course was in good shape with greens, fairways, and tee boxes in well-maintained condition. A small number of wet spots were still appearing throughout the course, attributed to leaky or damaged sprinkler heads. The weather and cool temps, however, did not deter great scoring as 47 of the 62 players came in at a net score at or under par, seven golfers shot gross below par, and Ralph Koizumi had a hole-inone on the second hole.

Jon Russell had the best net score of 11 under 43 and four players had the lowest gross score of 4 under 50. Additionally, there were 10 circle hole winners, and surprisingly, a record 75 birdies were recorded. Closest to the pin on the front nine was Hyon Shin and on the back it was Joon Sup Yoon.

A flight winners (handicaps of 0-5): John Kolthoff, Thomas Kim, Dong An Kim and Gene Archambault, 4 under par 50, first place; Pat Paternoster, Fujio Norihiro, Koizumi and Bill Lyons, 3 under 51, second; Mike Mayfield, 2 under 52, third; Dave LaCascia and Bob Barnum, 1 under 53, fourth.

B flight winners (handicaps of 6-11): Owens, 10 under 44, first place; Dale Williamson and Ron Steele, 6 under 48, second; Won Song and John (JR) Rudosky, 5 under 49, third; Jae H. Lee and Seung Lee, 3 under 51, fourth; Ryan Hong, Ron Jackson and Bruce Bowles, 2 under 52, fifth.

C flight winners (handicaps of 12-18): Russell, 11 under 43, first place; James Choi and Darry Holten, 5 under 49, second; Dennis Jensen, Rod Osgood and Won G. Park, 4 under 50, third; Bill Zurn, 3 under 51, fourth; Ben Benjamins and Dennis Anctil, 2 under 52, fifth; Mark Tal, Noe Alcaraz and Paul Shellenberger, sixth; Daniel Mahoney, even par 54, seventh.

The Men’s Club spring picnic is scheduled for May 28 at the Clubhouse 1 picnic area. Dinner will be a barbecue. Cost is to be determined.

The next men’s tournament will be on April 9 and is played every second and fourth Wednesday of the month. The next Guys and Gals tournament will be on April 16, then every third and fifth Wednesday if there is one.

Those who had planned to play in any tournament and cannot should contact Scott Tuchfarber at 909-684-0426, or Dave LaCascia at 801-674-5975 as soon as possible.
