Permanent space found for informal photography class
PHOTO ARTS CLUB
At the March 13 meeting of the Photo Arts Club, President Regine Schumacher presented great news. Club member and photographer Ziggy Romano has until now been holding informal meetings to teach editing techniques and answer photo and camera related questions on a one-to-one basis in the social area of Clubhouse 6.
Recently, he was able to reserve Clubhouse 3, Room 3, for this purpose. It is private and has a large TV. The dates will be the same: the fourth Thursday of the month. The next session will be held today, March 27, at 1:30 p.m. in Clubhouse 3, Room 3.
Les Coombes recently hung photos in an empty area in the hallway of the Health Care Center. There is room for an additional 16-by-20-inch photo.
At the meeting, Coombes showed photos from Arizona, Antarctica and Madagascar. He discussed techniques used in each photo. Romano began the program by presenting the color wheel and defining primary and secondary colors. He discussed complementary colors and asked members to keep this in mind as they reviewed the photos.
He reviewed cropping, particularly the aspect ratio, and encouraged everyone to use standard ratios when they plan to print the photos. Photos taken by the members were reviewed and discussed with with these ideas in mind.
The assignment for April is mood and feelings. Photographers should send their best three photos that capture this topic to Ben Benjamins at benbenjamins@hotmail.com by April 7.
Individuals with technical or other questions will be paired with someone who can help them for individual discussion after the meeting.
The Photo Arts Club will meet April 10 at 1:30 p.m. in Clubhouse 3, Room 9. People should bring their iPhones, Androids and/or cameras. Everyone is welcome. For more information, call Regine Schumacher at 562-430-7078.
