LW Men’s Golf League

Eleven golfers from the Leisure World Men’s Golf League met at the David L. Baker Executive Golf Course in Fountain Valley on March 10. The weather was cool but sunny, and the course was relatively dry. Baker continues to renovate their tee boxes, and the tees were set forward. This shortened the course and made several par 3s under 100 yards.

With the decent weather, good course conditions and the shortened fairways, the golfers battered the course and every player scored well. In addition, several low gross scores were posted. There were five birdies: one each by Sam Choi, Jim Goltra, Jae Choi, Larry Hillhouse and Duke Park. Fewest putts for the round in the A flight was Jim Goltra, and in the B it was Lowell Goltra.

A flight winners: Best gross score was by Jim Goltra, followed by Fujio Norihiro, Jae Choi, Sam Choi, Chris Lankford and Larry Hillhouse.

B flight winners: Best gross was a tie between Bob Munn and Park, followed by Leon, Lowell Goltra and Bill Zurn.

Five courageous and ultimately very damp golfers met at the par 71 River View Golf Course in Santa Ana on March 14. There was little wind, but the weather was rainy plus it never warmed up significantly. The course was not dramatically affected by the previous weeks’ rains, so the full 18 holes were played.

Players included Clay Fischer, Sam Choi, Bob Munn, Fujio Norihiro and Chris Lankford. Fischer and Choi had fewest putts and there were no birdies. Best gross score was Choi, followed by Lankford, Fischer, Norihiro and Munn.

The Monday and Friday golf leagues play at four local courses, all within 15-20 minutes of Leisure World. These courses are always quite full, so advance league reservations are required with a sign-up sheet available at each round.

There is a prize pool for each round that players are not obligated to enter. Rewards are given for low net in each flight, birdies, closest to the pin on two par threes, and for the lowest number of putts in each flight. Holes-in-one and eagles (two under par) are generously rewarded. Those interested in playing can contact Gary Stivers at 714-313-3697 or Dave LaCascia at 801-674-5975.
