TOURNAMENT POKER CLUB
Those who would like to play a fun and friendly game of Texas Hold ‘Em for a $5 buy-in should make plans to play with the Tournament Poker Club at one of the regular tournaments on the first three Saturdays of every month. The morning starts with coffee/treats and registration at 10 a.m. Cards are in the air at 10:30 a.m. There is no late seating.
On Feb. 22, the club celebrated all the final table winners from 2024 with a Player of the Year tournament. Twenty-one players started the tournament, with the game being no limit from the beginning. Several players busted out early but play continued until there were only eight of the best of the best.
The final table players were: Bob Konier, first place; Donna Hernandez, second; Brent Covington, third; Doug Wolfe, fourth; Glenn Evenson, fifth; Wendy Wu, sixth; Jeff Rolnick, seventh; Jack Lee Pfiefer, eighth. With eight of the best at the table, play continued until Konier and Hernandez were heads up. In the final hand of the match, Konier was holding K-2 and Hernandez had 5-2. Hernandez went all in before the flop and was called by Konier. The flop came 8-9-10 which left Konier in the lead with the king. The turn was a 7, and the river was an A. Neither player made a hand with their own cards, and the five highest cards available were A-K-10-9-8 vs. A-10-9-8-5. The club congratulates Konier for being 2024’s Player of the Year.
Konier has lived in Leisure World and been a member of the poker club for 16 years. This was his fourth final table win. In addition to playing poker, Konier also enjoys traveling in his RV. He is president of the RV Club here in Leisure World.
The club congratulates all the winners.
