Tom Pappas wins Tournament Poker Club match
Those would like to play a fun and friendly game of Texas Hold ‘Em for a $5 buy-in can make plans to play with the Tournament Poker Club on Saturday, March 1. Regular tournaments are on the first three Saturdays of every month and start with coffee/treats and registration at 10 a.m. Cards are in the air at 10:30. There is no late seating.
On Feb. 18 the club had a great turnout for the last regular tournament for the month. Fifty-four players made for an exciting game. High hand winners were Marvin Rolnick (K-K-K-K-A) and Jack Cornel (10-10-10-10-A). Brent Covington won a prize for playing and winning with the promo hand of 4-10.
As the winners of their original table, the final table players were: Tom Pappas, first place; Marvin Rolnick, second; Kathy Segroves, third; Harry Sera, fourth; Dick Jones, fifth; Brian Burke, sixth; Larry Slutsky, seventh. Play continued at the final table until Rolnick and Pappas were heads up. In the final hand of the match, Pappas was holding K-10 and Rolnick had K-3. The flop came 6-9-K, and both players called. The turn was a 5, and Pappas went all in with a pair of kings and a 10; Rolnick called with a pair of kings and a 3. The river was a 9, which gave Pappas the win with two pair.
Pappas has lived in Leisure World for 16 years and has been a member of the poker club for seven years. This was his sixth final table win. Pappas is an active member of the club, and helps out as a dealer. He is also a regular at several other poker games here in Leisure World. Besides poker, he enjoys playing golf and traveling.
The club congratulates all the winners.
