LW Pool Club

The LW Pool Club held its annual B and C tournament on Jan. 18. This was a double elimination tournament with 16 players competing in eight ball. The first match for everyone was two games out of three. After that, it was one and done for those players in the loser’s bracket.

After two rounds Frank Sablan, Brian Burke, Phuoc Tran and Dave Mackinder all won their first two games, and were the four players left in the winners bracket. All four are B level players.

Sablan beat Mackinder and Tran beat Burke. That left Sablan and Tran in the winner’s bracket. Sablan beat Tran when Sablan missed his last striped ball, but it went three rails into the corner pocket. Sablan did play position on the eight ball and made a long straight shot to win the game.

In the final game in the loser’s bracket Burke beat Tran to advance and meet Sablan in the finals.

Burke needed to beat Sablan two games in a row to take first place, since Sablan hadn’t lost a game in the double elimination format. Burke had two of his balls on the table and Sablan only had the eight ball left. Burke missed and Sablan made the eight to win the tournament.
