LW Democratic Club
All Leisure World voters are reminded that LW’s CA State Senate District 36 seat became vacant on Dec. 2 when Janet Nguyen resigned following her election to the Orange County Board of Supervisors. A special primary election to replace Nguyen will take place on Feb. 25. The general election to fill this seat will be on April 29.
District 36 includes most of coastal Orange County, including Leisure World. Republicans account for 37.11% of registered voters in the district. Democrats make up 33.93% while 22.61% have no party preference.
All LW Democrats are also reminded that our club’s treasurer, Mary Tromp, is a candidate for election to be a voting delegate from LW’s State Assembly District 72 at the California Democratic Party (CADEM) annual convention to be held in Anaheim this spring.
All residents who are officially registered as Democrats are eligible to vote electronically in this election. However, because this is an election run by the Democratic Party itself rather than the OC Registrar of Voters, potential voters must submit a registration application to CADEM by noon Jan. 24 in order to cast their vote. Registration is easy and can be done online at adem.cadem.org. Anyone having questions about this process should contact Mary Tromp at mary.tromp@gmail.com.
The club’s hospitality and voter information booth will be open from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. on the first Tuesday of every month, located in the parking lot outside Clubhouse 6.
The club’s lunch bunch gathering will take place on Wednesday, Feb. 5 at the Hof’s Hut Restaurant & Bakery on Seal Beach Boulevard at 11:30 a.m. These informal get-together sessions are designed to welcome new club members. Advanced reservations are not required.
Club members have a new Facebook group. For information on how to join the group, email the group’s coordinator Dan Larkin at danolark@gmail. com.
