Building upon the success of the Salvation Army donation event in September, the GRF and the Salvation Army are teaming up to bring “Salvation Saturday” to Leisure World.

The first event will be held Saturday, Dec. 14, in the Community Gardens parking lot from 9:30 a.m.2:30 p.m.

This will be a regularly scheduled event held on the second Saturday of each month through March 2025. The Salvation Army will accept donations of small to medium furniture and household goods. Donated items must be clean, undamaged, and in salable.

Liability issues prevent the Salvation Army personnel from entering people’s units or picking up their donations on Mutual property so people must bring their donations to the truck.

The Salvation Army representatives on site will have right of refusal and if so the shareholder can dispose of the material in the designated rolloff bins in the 1.8 acre site.

People should enter the site from Oak Hills Drive off Northwood in the northwest corner of Leisure World. For those wishing to use the Community Gardens facilities, note that on-site parking will be severely limited during the event.

Though the focus on Saturday, Dec.14, will be on furniture (small to medium sized) and larger household goods, the Salvation Army will also accept donations of clothing, sporting goods, toys and games, artwork, tools and other items.

Donation bags will be available in the lobby of each clubhouse and the News Office. IRS-approved receipts will be provided on request.

The purpose of these events is not only to support the Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Centers throughout Southern California, but to help to reduce the trash removal expenses that shareholders subsidize through their assessments.

The Board hopes that by having the event on Saturday at this location, it will capitalize on unit clean-outs and estate sale leftovers which heavily contribute to LW’s trash removal expenses. In March, there will be another larger multi-truck, multi-location event similar to the one held in in September.

All are encouraged to take full advantage of this opportunity to purge of unwanted or unneeded possessions and support a worthy cause in the process.
