The Golden Age Foundation (GAF) volunteer team collected over 500 pounds, or 10 boxes, of batteries to recycle on Nov. 19. Residents brought their used household batteries to the Clubhouse 2 parking lot where volunteers collected, sorted, and packed the batteries for shipment to the recycle facility.

While GAF holds household battery collections every four months, residents can take their batteries of all sizes, as well as e-waste such as televisions, tablets, cell phones and computers to the Orange County Waste and Recycling for free all year long. The nearest facility is located in Huntington Beach, 8.5 miles from Leisure World, at 17121 Nichols Lane, Huntington Beach, CA 92647 Gate 6. It is open from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday. Call 714-834-4000 for more information. Staples in Rossmoor will take up to 11 pounds of household batteries and Autozone will take any car or golf cart battery. Electronic devices and lightbulbs can be dropped off at Service Maintenance.

The GAF thanks recycling volunteers Dave Forney, Sophie Jin, Linda Johnson, Diana Lambert, Cheryl Falconer, Fara Mccartney, Roberta Johnson, Anna Derby, Al Basler and Carl Kennedy. The next battery recycling service will be on March 11.
