Local nonprofit We Care will be highlighted

GARDEN CLUB

The Garden Club will meet Monday, Feb. 20, at 1:30 p.m. in Clubhouse 2. Elizabeth Rubio, case manager at We Care of Los Alamitos, will speak about the good work that this family resource center has been doing since 1989 to help local families with the daily struggles of keeping fed and sheltered.

Rubio started out as an intern with We Care in 2018 while she was a student at Cal State Long Beach studying child development and family life education.

Upon graduation she was offered the opportunity to work for them as a part-time case manager, and she has been there now for five years. “Working with the community and helping clients with any assistance that we can is really rewarding,” Rubio said.

The Garden Club is a proud, longtime supporter of We Care. A donation table dedicated to We Care is set up in the lobby at all club meetings for donations of non-perishable food items, gift cards and cash.

Coffee, tea and cookies will be served after the meeting.
