Art League will host oil painting demonstration on Tuesday
An Art League demonstration will be held Tuesday, Nov. 8, in Clubhouse 4 at 7 p.m. Famous oil painter Tom Balderas will be the club’s guest demonstrator.
Growing up in Torrance, California, Balderas lives only a few miles from the ocean, which has made nature, along with his family, the main inspiration of his paintings. Balderas attended Loyola Marymount University where he studied film production and art. After graduation, he worked for several years for NBC Productions and helped make many movies. He then began studying under the tutelage of his photographer father, as well as Joseph Mendez, master painter and teacher. Balderas considers the time he spent studying with Mendez to be the cornerstone of his growth as a painter.
His work can be seen in many galleries including: Wendt Gallery in Laguna Beach, Higbee Gallery in Costa Mesa, the Nest Gallery in Cambria, and many more. Balderas has participated in dozens of group, two-man and solo exhibitions.
Artists who want to enter the monthly membership art show should arrive by 6:30 p.m. The subject of the popular vote theme is “fall.”
