May Day Protest at the Globe

On May 1, about 70 residents gathered with protest signs and enthusiasm to participate in a May Day protest at the Main Gate. May Day, otherwise known as International Workers’ Day or Labor Day, is celebrated across the globe. Its purpose is to commemorate the Haymarket Affair, a series of events that led to violent conflict between police and protesters striking for an eight-hour workday in Chicago.

People can get help signing up for the California Lifeline Program, which provides free cell phones to income-qualified people, on Monday, May 12, from 9-11 a.m. in the Optum Health Care Center.
