GRF BOARD RECAP by Ruth Osborn Communications Director The Golden Rain Foundation Board met Aug. 27 with a full agenda that was mostly approved with several unanimous votes. Even the one item that failed—a proposal to add parking outside the Main Gate—was nearly unanimous in its rejection, a sign of early unity and cohesion, given that there are five brand new members on the board.

West Nile virus detected in Seal Beach


VECTOR CONTROL The Orange County Mosquito and Vector Control District has confirmed mosquito samples infected with West Nile virus (WNV) in the City of Seal Beach, the district announced Sept. 3. The surveillance traps were set in an area of Seal Beach Boulevard between the 405 Freeway and Westminster Boulevard. Inspectors will check known sources of mosquito breeding in the Seal Beach

A flu clinic will be held at the Optum Health Care Center on Friday, Sept. 13. Residents whose primary care doctor works at an Optum clinic can get their shot for free, as well as people with Original Medicare. Medicare Advantage patients must have an insurance card with Optum on it, otherwise they must pay for the shot. Those who want to pay in cash should bring $35 for a normal adult shot

How to Donate: Seal Beach Animal Care Center


The Seal Beach Animal Care Center will collect donations and pet supplies at the Sept. 5 Amphitheater show from 6-8 p.m. Those who donate will be entered into raffles for gift cards to Target, Home Goods and California Pizza Kitchen. All proceeds will go to the animals in the care of this no-kill, nonprofit shelter. Volunteers will accept cash for vet bills and specific dog, cat and shelter items.
