The GAF receives generous donation from late resident

IN MEMORIAM The Golden Age Foundation (GAF) would like to thank Marilyn Schatz, who recently passed away, for her generous bequest to the foundation. Because of this donation, the GAF can continue to give back to residents in the community. Marilyn moved into Leisure World in 2013. Almost immediately, she started volunteering for the GAF through assisting in the tax program by making appointments over the phone. Marilyn was also one of the phone volunteers for the Mobility Aids program. Her journals reflected how much she enjoyed volunteering. She also loved her dog, Abby. Marilyn was born on Aug. 8, 1935, to Arnold Free and Phyllis Mcleary. She graduated in 1953 from Freemont High School in Los Angeles. She went on to correspondence school to become a professional secretary. She was also a notary public. Marilyn retired from TRW in 1993. She continued to live in the South Bay area until moving to Mutual 1 in Leisure World. Anna Derby, president of GAF, is in contact with the Mutual 1 president to plan a remembrance of Marilyn, such as a bus bench. The GAF is very grateful to Marilyn for her philanthropy and her volunteering. Her memory will live on because of her generosity. – Linda Johnson, Emeritus GAF Board Marilyn Schatz

Felisa Mones Tabora

Felisa Mones Tabora ….

Felisa Mones Tabora 1942-2022 Felisa Mones Tabora was born on May 1, 1942, in Pangasinan, Philippines. She grew up in a small village, and despite her modest upbringing she had nothing but fond memories of her childhood and her roots. She migrated to the United States at the age of 19, moving to Los Angeles where she met and fell in love with Antonio Tabora, who would eventually become her husband of more than 56 years. Felisa was proof that angels exist. She had the warmest smile, the softest hug, and carried with her an air of peace and calm. Her favorite movie was Pretty Woman. Her favorite song was “Unchained Melody” by the Righteous Brothers. Her favorite hobbies were cutting fruit, gardening, rooting for the Dodgers and the Lakers, making her famous zucchini bread, going on cruises, collecting rosaries, and voting. As a proud American, she loved the national anthem, and she voted in every election. And her faith was second to none. The chances are likely that if she wasn’t talking, she was praying. At family parties you would typically find her in the kitchen cooking and cleaning. Her life was built on taking care of others. As a file clerk for an insurance company, she took great pride in her work, and she did her job well. Felisa’s life was full of hard work, so it was appropriate that her retirement was filled with fun and travel. She and her husband Tony moved to Leisure World in 2006 and quickly joined the Filipino Club and had a huge community of friends and events to attend. She was also a volunteer at Holy Family Church, and enjoyed going to workout classes at Clubhouse 6. She lived her life with grace, faith, humility, kindness, and love. Felisa passed away peacefully on Aug. 24, and is survived by five daughters who loved her and were by her side until her final days, three grandsons who cherished her, and a sister whom she adored that was also her best friend.
