Tournament Poker Club will play Oct. 3 in CH 6

The Tournament Poker Club invites anyone who would like to play a fun and friendly game of Texas Hold ‘Em for a $5 buyin to play in Clubhouse 6 the first three Saturdays of every month, starting with coffee, treats and registration at 10 a.m. The next game will be on Oct. 3. Cards are in the air at 10:30. There is no late seating.

On Sept. 12 it was hot outside, so 58 club members were ready to play an exciting game of Texas Hold ‘Em inside where it was cool. High hand winners were: Kathy Seagroves with 6-6-6-6-8, Ralph Delgado with K-K-K-A-A, and Kathy Elliott with Q-Q-Q-8-8. Ric Enge won a prize for playing and winning with the promo hand of 9-5.

As the winners of their original table, the final table players were: Debbie Barner, first place; Harold Morehead, second; Carol Ostergaard, third; Edwin Lucero, fourth; Eric Holdaway, fifth; Katie Hamilton, sixth; Richard Jones, seventh; and Barry Brideau, eighth.

Play continued at the final table until Barner with ace and 7 of diamonds, and Morehead, with jack of clubs and 4 of clubs, were heads up. Morehead went all-in before the flop and was called by Barner. The flop came jack of diamonds, 2 of clubs, 10 of diamonds, giving Barner a flush draw and Morehead a pair of jacks. The turn was a king of hearts, which was no help for Barner, who needed a diamond or an ace to win the match. The river was an 8 of diamonds, giving Barner the win with a flush.

Barner has lived in Leisure World and been a member of the club for five years. She is currently a member of the board and is also a dealer for the club. This was her seventh final table win. Barner plays in several card groups here in Leisure World, and is also a member and president of the Creative Writers Club. Besides poker, she enjoys writing, gardening and creating craft projects, and can be spotted riding her tricycle around Leisure World, often with her dog Leo.
