LW Pool Club keeps strokes smooth with gloves

The LW Pool Club recently bought more pool gloves. Before pool gloves, players sometimes used chalk to make their cue glide more smoothly through their hand. This was extremely messy. Although gloves were available in the 1970s, it was Jeannet Lee, a woman pro player known as “The Black Widow,” who made gloves popular. Gloves keep the cue cleaner and provide a smooth consistent stroke. Most players in the club use a glove.

At the Sept. 14 Monday league, all three games had lopsided scores. 2 Spicy 4 U beat The Cue Crew 11-2. 2 Spicy 4 U won all six of their singles matches. Ralph Delgado won six of his seven games and teammates Dennis Bedford and Rosie Edrich both won five games.

The Burners beat Less is More 10-3. Phuoc Tran won six games for The Burners, losing only his eight ball game. John Burns and Nancy Rader both won five games for The Burners.

The Hustlers beat Snowballs 10-3. Kurt Bourhenne had a perfect night, winning all seven of his matches. Bourhenne is the first player this season to score a perfect seven. Teammate Ron Kennedy won five games and both of his singles matches.

At the Wednesday league, The Blind Squirrels beat One More Shot 10-3. This moved The Blind Squirrels into second place, two games behind Bank On It. Earick Ward of The Blind Squirrels won six games and teammate Brian Tivnan won five.

Bank On It beat The Z Factor 10-3. Hankin Le, Jeffrey Furlong and Milly Larsen all won six games for Bank On It. Each player lost one singles match, but Bank On It won all their doubles games.

Fee Fi Fo Fum edged The Favorites 7-6. Fee Fi Fo Fum was down six games to four, but came back to win the last three games. Shery Wells and Ray Friedrichsen won five games for Fee Fi Fo Fum.

The straight pool league had some exciting matches as it finished off week 11 of its 20 game schedule. Winners included Ron Kennedy, Jeffrey Furlong, Frank Sablan, Gary Snow, Phouc Tran, John Barth, Bruce Pettys, Steve Edrich and Jane Westall. Jennifer Spindler won a back-and-forth battle with Brian Burke 30-29. Pettys maintains his unblemished record of 11-0 and first-place status in the league.
