Leisure World Korean Community Church (LWKCC) welcomed violinist John Jeong at its Sunday service on Sept. 20 to share his testimony and perform.

Jeong, who defected from North Korea in search of freedom and faith, is a musician and graduate of the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Russia.

While in North Korea, he served as the concertmaster of the orchestra dedicated to Kim Jong-il and as an exchange professor at a university in Eastern Europe; however, after encountering God, he chose to come to South Korea to practice his faith freely.

His wife, Kim Ye-na, also majored in piano and completed her doctoral studies at Pyongyang University of Music before settling in South Korea in pursuit of freedom.

The couple declined offers to join renowned domestic and international symphony orchestras and currently serve as ambassadors for the Association for Peaceful Unification of the Korean Peninsula (Hanjeonghyeop).

Deeply desiring unification through the Gospel, they continue their dedicated ministry by sharing their testimonies and performing at various faithbased gatherings.

Fifty-five members of the LWKCC congregation embarked on a trip, traveling by train from Los Angeles to Santa Barbara along a scenic and leisurely coastal route on Sept. 8.

The journey was designed to foster fellowship and deepen relationships among the team members. Traveling on Amtrak’s Pacific Surfliner, which is known for its safety and excellent facilities, the group enjoyed the beauty of the west coast while revitalizing their spirits and strengthening friendships.

LWKCC holds a worship service every Sunday in the sanctuary at 14000 Church Place at 11:30 a.m. Its mission is to “plant God’s will in the ground,” in Leisure World and the surrounding communities.

The early morning prayer service, led by Senior Pastor Jang Young-yong, is held in the sanctuary at 6 a.m. Tuesdays-Saturdays.
