LW Men’s Golf League

Sixteen members of the Leisure World Men’s Golf League were greeted by a humid and partly sunny morning for their round at the Meadowlark Golf Course on July 27.

Meadowlark is a 5,600-yard par 71 course that is always in good condition. Greens, fairways and tees were well manicured with just a few wet or muddy areas despite heavy overnight watering designed to keep up with the high temperatures in the afternoon. It was a very competitive day and 13 of the 16 golfers scored at or below net par, with numerous low scores.

There were 10 birdies—four by Jim Goltra, two by Steve Earl, and one each by Sam Choi, Clay Fisher, Dave LaCascia and Chris Lankford. The two closest to the pin challenges were won by Goltra on No. 7, and Choi on 16. Fujio Norihiro and Bob Munn had fewest putts for the round.

Net score equals gross minus handicap.

A flight winners (handicaps of 1-19): Goltra, first place; Gary Stivers, Norihiro, Bruno Santillo and Earl, second; LaCascia, Lankford and Kyle Van, third; Fisher, fourth; Choi, fifth.

B flight winners (handicaps of 20 and higher): Dom Bautista, first; Mike Jimenez and Tom Ross, second; Scott Slade, third; Randy Massaro, fourth; Bob Munn, fifth.

The league plays every Monday at four local courses, all within 15-20 minutes of Leisure World. Advanced league reservations are required with a signup sheet available at each round.

There is a prize pool for each round that players are not obligated to enter. Men interested in playing can contact Gary Stivers at 714-313-3697 or Dave LaCascia at 801-674-5974.
