On Sunday, May 3, the congregations of Redeemer Lutheran Church and St. Theodore of Canterbury Episcopal Church will celebrate the fifth Sunday of Easter at 10:30 a.m. at 13564 St. Andrews Drive. The Rev. Murray Finck will preside over the service. People can stay after service for fellowship in the Fellowship Hall with coffee, tea, cookies and snacks. The congregations collect donations of canned food for those in need.

The Spring Bazaar will be held in the Fellowship Hall at Redeemer Lutheran Church today, April 30, May 1 and May 2 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Everyone is invited to come and shop. Lunch will be available for purchase. For more information, see page 20.

The Bible study will continue on Wednesday, May 6, from noon-1:15 p.m. The group continues its study in the Acts of the Apostles. People are encouraged to bring their Bibles, a friend or neighbor, and lunch. This is a great opportunity for believers to expand their knowledge of the early church and make a new friend.

The Gospel lesson for this week is from John 14:1-14. The lesson from these scriptures has as much to do with the disciple’s (and current day believers’) fears and hesitation in their relationship with Jesus, their faith journey, and to understand the relationship between the father and the son. The disciples wanted a road map with every obstacle, turn, challenge and fork in the road to be marked. Believers today are so concerned with being on the right track that they do not trust in he who is, which is “the way and the truth and the life” (John 14:6).

There is a beautiful morning prayer (Matins, page 304) and evening prayer (Vespers, page 317) in the Evangelical Lutheran Worship Book to help believers rely on God’s guidance: “O God, you have called your servants to ventures of which we cannot see the ending, by paths as yet untrodden, through perils unknown. Give us faith to go out with good courage, not knowing where we go, but only that your hand is leading us and your love supporting us; through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
