Letter to the Editor
Editor:
On occasion, when I go out for breakfast and the server asks me if I want a muffin or toast, I respond, “Toast, please, wheat bread and marmalade.”
As I sit there in air conditioned comfort, I cringe in recognizing how many millions around the world (and, regrettably, a goodly number of my fellow countrymen) are sick, hungry and without means, far less the opportunity, which I so easily enjoy.
Surely our nation can contribute generously to the benefit of others and shoulder a restraint upon our civil advancement (not a loss, merely a slight hesitation).
On many individual aspects of the good life, being a close second best is not all that painful.
