Fun With Fashion Club
The topic of the Jan. 12 Fun With Fashion Club meeting was “Makeup and More.”
Camille Dull began the evening with the “and more” part. She talked about how internal thoughts affect people’s outward appearance. She led participants in an exercise to help take control of their thoughts, which ended with smiles and laughter. Everyone was instantly prettier.
Brenda Thomason then talked about the importance of exercise as people age. She presented an intriguing image of how people live in a glass box of their own creation throughout their lives. Children have a large glass box because of vigorous exercise. Thomason used to be able to do the splits, but said she couldn’t do the splits now because her box had narrowed as she aged. Exercising in daily life keeps the glass box as large as possible, and bones as healthy as possible. Thomason introduced the bones she used when she was giving education classes in osteoporosis. She named one of the bones Ethel and the other Lucy. She invited guests to hold the bones and weigh them in their hands, so they could feel the weight of a healthy bone versus the lighter-weighted bone weakened by osteoporosis.
Fashion Stylist Theresa Metzler took center stage wearing no makeup so she could demonstrate her makeup routine. First, she applied her everyday makeup, then she proceeded to add a touch of this and a touch of that, for her “going to a meeting” makeup. Then she showed her special event look, naming each product she used. Her mantra for makeup is “less is more.”
Folks were invited to share their makeup tips and did so enthusiastically. Marlyn Thompson, with her lovely skin and smiling face, showed her bottles of vinegar and milk of magnesia. Thompson also shared her other beauty secrets: wearing a cream sunscreen daily, using the other two products only at night. She walks 4,000 steps each morning, has a glass of wine with dinner, and volunteers at WAGS Animal Shelter, where 20-year-olds wonder how she can still do so much at 90.
The Fun With Fashion Club will meet Monday, Feb. 9, in Clubhouse 3, Room 2, at 6 p.m. The event will be an accessory exchange with a Valentine’s Day theme.
