Seniors for Peace will host speaker Dr. Don Schwartz, professor emeritus of history, on Thursday, Jan. 8, at 2 p.m. in Clubhouse 3, Room 1. His program is called “Distorting History: Re-writing the Past to Control the Future.” He will cover how totalitarian regimes distort and falsify history.

Schwartz taught at CSULB for more than 20 years. After retiring in 2010, he was enlisted by the Fullbright Specialist Program to teach American history at foreign universities.

In 2011, he taught at Panasastra University in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, and in 2014 at Jiaotung University in Shanghai, China.

Since 2015 Schwartz has presented lecture series independently, covering many diverse and fascinating topics. Schwartz obtained his PhD in history from New York University, his master’s in history from Indiana University and his bachelor’s from City College of New York.

The meeting officially starts at 2 p.m., but people can come as early as 1:45 to socialize and enjoy refreshments.

All are welcome. Call Pat Kruger at 562-357-4040 for more information.
