Traveling Tigers: Argentina
The Traveling Tigers will meet Nov. 19 at noon in Clubhouse 3, Room 9. This month’s travel presentation is brought by Diana Scott and her husband Nick Giffin, who will tell their tale of travels through one of South America’s most beautiful countries, Argentina.
Starting at the top on the border with Brazil and Paraguay, Iguazú National Park stretches almost two miles along the Iguazú River, which is home to nearly 300 waterfalls; where the jungle hums with life, air smells of orchids and red earth, lush, hot, and full of energy. Moving on to Buenos Aires, the soul of Argentina, see the broad boulevards, the old European architecture of Recoleta, and the colorful houses of La Boca. Continuing farther south into Patagonia is a land of wind, silence and horizons, which appear infinite. Take a look at penguins in the massive colony at Punta Tombo. Next, observe breathtaking views at Tierra del Fuego National Park. Going lower down to Ushuaia, often called “The End of the World” on the island of Tierra del Fuego, we find the southern-most city on Earth with its subantarctic forests and crystal lakes. Finally, a short expedition to Antarctica, The White Continent, just 600 miles across the Drake Passage.
Few trips on Earth offer such a magical contrast, from rainforest heat to polar cold, from noisy tango to icy silence. Don’t miss this wonderful show of a part of the world that should be on everyone’s bucket list.
