Many people love many parts of the holidays, the food, music, decorations and lights, but it can become stressful as well, making decisions and plans for travel, gifts, entertaining and baking. This writer recalls a year when, in the process of making cookies, a sudden need for a grocery store trip arose at the same time as peppermint sticks needed crushing. In a flash of “brilliance,” the idea of crushing the peppermints under the car tire before and after the store run seemed to be the perfect solution. This is what stress leads to! Needless to say, it was a crushing failure but became part of holiday lore and fun. Down with stress, up with joy! Let the Friends of the Library Bookstore’s half-price books help.
