Hui O Hula

Hui O Hula continues to share the aloha spirit through weekly dance classes while instructor Jojo Weingart and event coordinator Kaye Huff are taking a short leave of absence.

Dancers meet Tuesdays upstairs in Clubhouse 6 at 1 p.m., and Thursdays outdoors at Veterans Plaza, also at 1 p.m. September hula subjects include three favorites: “He’eia,” “The Prayer” and “Haleiwa Hula.” All are welcome. Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing and dance barefoot, or bring socks or soft booties.

At the end of August, LW resident Michael Oh, a Mutual 1 shareholder since 2004, celebrated his 85th birthday at Clubhouse 4 (see page 18), surrounded by more than 135 friends and family from near and far.

With his partner Anna Derby of Mutual 6, Oh made frequent trips to Maui, keeping his connection to Hawaiian culture alive.
