Less stress and more kindness may contribute to weight loss
WA-RITE
Wa-Rite is a female-only club that meets on Friday mornings from 9-10 in Clubhouse 3, Room 1. Weigh-ins are from 8-8:45. Dues are $10 a year, plus 10 cents upon signing in. LW ID cards must be shown. Women who want support on their weight-loss journey and to meet like-minded people are welcome to stop by no later than 8:45 to weigh in and complete the registration paperwork.
On Aug. 8, recordkeeper Darleen Gardner announced that the club lost a total of 26.5 pounds for the week. Shirley LaBrecque and Joy Nasser were the biggest losers with a 4-pound loss each. LaBrecque said that she stepped up her exercise routine. Nasser, who has been steadily losing weight each week, said that she recently retired, and now stresses less and has more time to exercise.
Gardner and president Judy Chambers shared a program called “30 Habits to Help You Live 100 Years.” Everyone was handed one of the habits to read, and share comments and/ or ask questions. Some of the habits are:
• Walk at least 30 minutes and drink water daily.
• Build strong, loving relationships and avoid drama.
• Manage stress with mindfulness or a prayer.
• Keep a brain active by reading and learning.
• Laugh and smile often.
• Spend time in nature/outdoors regularly.
• Eat slowly and stop before getting full.
• Celebrate small wins to stay mentally strong.
The weekly food for thought was: “The six best doctors are sunlight, rest, exercise, diet, self-confidence and friends.”
