WA-RITE

Wa-Rite is a female-only club that meets on Friday mornings from 9-10 in Clubhouse 3, Room 1. Weigh-ins are from 8-8:45. Dues are $10 a year, plus 10 cents upon signing in. LW ID cards must be shown. Women who want support on their weight-loss journey and to meet like-minded people are welcome to stop by no later than 8:45 to weigh in and complete the registration paperwork.

On July 18, members learned that the club lost a total of 35 pounds for the week. The biggest loser, once again, was Joy Nasser, who is on a roll with another 4.5-pound loss. Nasser said it wasn’t her intention to lose so much weight in one week, and was probably due to stress. In addition to being the biggest loser, Nasser achieved her short-term goal and won $10.

Club member Ellen Larsen intended to speak about the book, “Vitality Diet: The Vegetarian/Vegan Anti-Inflammatory Diet,” and instead, talked about the benefits of being part of the Wa-Rite community. Larsen said that even after reaching her goal weight, other members’ support helped her stay on track and be accountable.

With family members living as far as San Diego and Oregon, Larsen considers the Wa-Rite her family. She’s been a member of the Wa-Rite since 1997 and said that she has never felt alone since joining the club.

The weekly food for thought was: “May your week be filled with good thoughts, kind people and happy moments.”
