Ice cream social with writers club is July 25
PHOTO ARTS CLUB
The Photo Arts Club will meet Aug. 14 at 1:30 p.m. in Clubhouse 3, Room 9. People should bring their iPhone/ Android and/or camera. The assignment is “trees.” People should send three of their favorite photos to Ziggy Romano at siegfried.romano@gmail.com prior to the meeting.
The main issue for the meeting was the conclusion of the club’s joint venture with the Creative Writers Club. For members whose photos were used, there will be an ice cream social and a meeting on July 25 in Clubhouse 3, Room 1, at 1:30 p.m. Members are invited to meet the authors of the poems and stories inspired by the photographs. The club wants the photos to be displayed at the meeting.
At the July 10 meeting, Esther Cummings shared information about a new PBS KLCS program on photography which is on Thursday evenings at 7 p.m. called “Outside: Beyond the Lens.”
Les Coombes showed two photos of night skies. The first was an image of the moon taken from Belmont Shore and the second was of stars in Madagascar. He explained the camera settings to achieve the effect.
Ben Benjamins showed some family portraits that used double images of the same person in the photograph. He also reviewed water photos that had been sent to him.
He stressed that members don’t “take pictures,” they “make a photo,” a work of art. Many things contribute to the result: the use of light, the shutter speed, balance in the photo and, most importantly, something in the photo must be sharp. He also demonstrated the way editing software can be used to make changes to photos.
Individuals with technical or other questions will be paired with someone who can help them for individual discussion after the meeting.
Everyone is welcome. For more information, call Regine Schumacher at 562-430-7978.
