Community Church
On Sunday, July 13, Community Church’s resident pianist Hannah Yi will perform a double piano concert titled “Key Conversations” with fellow pianist Susan Kim-Pedroza. The performance will feature music by Anderson and Roe, Rachmaninoff , Gershwin, and more, played on two pianos simultaneously. The musicians will use the church’s legacy Yamaha grand piano, and the newly donated Baldwin grand piano—courtesy of Will Mulcahy and the Mulcahy family, in memory of their mother, Judy Mulcahy.
The main lead of the television show, “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood,” Fred Rogers was a Presbyterian minister who became a television host. The show ran from 1968 until 2001, with the theme song titled “Won’t You Be My Neighbor?” In a world that appears to be ever more and more polarized, inviting others to be neighbors is a bold move. In Leisure World, with a steady stream of people moving in and out, there is likely an opportunity to meet a new neighbor each year. In the Gospel lesson this week, Jesus invites believers to look incredibly far —beyond their walls, to make new neighbors.
The weekly “Coffee with a Pastor” is on hiatus for the next two weeks, and will resume on Thursday, July 24, at 10 a.m.
The people at Community Church are focused on the “kindom,” building community, and living God’s love. Those who are experiencing hate or bitterness either in their own heart toward themselves or others, could benefit from community.
All are invited to become a part of the community, turning away from hatred, bigotry, sexism and homophobia. All are welcome who are welcoming to all.
Community Church meets for its worship service every Sunday at 9:50 a.m. at 14000 Church Place, near the St. Andrews Gate.
