Watercolor workshop is May 13

The May 13 meeting of the Leisure World Art League will be a hands-on painting workshop conducted by renowned watercolorist Joe Cibere. The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. in Clubhouse 4.

Cibere will instruct people on the use of watercolor and watermedia techniques he’s learned from his career as a commercial and fine artist. This will be an opportunity to discover new ways to paint a unique, powerful and interesting image and provide foundational skills that will help people become better artists. All the necessary supplies will be provided by the League. All interested artists are invited to participate. The workshop is appropriate for both beginner and advanced artists.

The Art League invites visual artists from Leisure World art and craft clubs to enter its Art in Bloom Fine Art Exhibition, which will be held Saturday, June 21, in the Clubhouse 3 Lobby. The categories for exhibition include ceramics, digital art, drawing, fabric art, glass, jewelry, lapidary, mixed media, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture and wood. Applications to enter the exhibition can be picked up at the Recreation Department on the ground floor of Building C. Applicants must submit images of their artwork to be considered, along with the completed application, via email to ramayanababa@msn.com. Artists can also exhibit their work at the League’s May 13 meeting. This month’s theme is flowers, and entries must be checked in before 5:30 p.m. The League allows one entry per member, plus an additional entry for the popular vote or 3D/crafts category. Awards of first, second and third place ribbons will be presented in each category, plus a Best of Show ribbon. Honorable mention ribbons are awarded at the judge’s (Cibere’s) discretion.
