Chess Club
The LW Chess Club meets every Friday in Clubhouse 3, Room 7, from 1-4:30 p.m. Beginners lessons are available. Keep Alzheimer’s and dementia at bay by practicing this strategy game, proven to improve short and long-term memory and critical thinking skills. GRF’s first-ever Harvest Festival is Oct. 25
GRF’s free Harvest Festival is Saturday, Oct. 25, from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Community Gardens, 13101 Nassau Drive.
The festival will feature live music by the Wimberley Bluegrass Band, along with a garden-wide scavenger hunt and lawn games for all ages. Residents can take part in a hands-on garden demonstration led by master gardener Susanna Kiely and plant a seedling to bring home.

The GRF Board will hold a town hall on proposed upgrades to Leisure World’s failing pedestrian gates on Wednesday, Oct. 29, from 1-3 p.m. in Clubhouse 4.

Golf cart laws were the topic of an Oct. 15 town hall with the Seal Beach Police Department, where residents spent an hour questioning officers about the rules, restrictions and realities of their favorite mode of transportation.
The discussion repeatedly returned to one central question: What exactly qualifies as a golf cart?
Vote at nearby Fire Station 48
ELECTION
The nearest in-person voting center to Leisure World is Fire Station 48, 3131 North Gate Road. Voters can cast their ballots at the fire station Nov. 1-3 from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. and on Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 4, from 7 a.m.-8 p.m.
People can also drop off their ballots at the yellow Orange County Registrar ballot drop box located in front of the Amphitheater bus hub until Nov. 4
Asphalt Repair Project
Asphalt repairs on Oakmont Road began Oct. 16 and are expected to be finished by the end of this month. The roadway remains open, but construction crews may be present during work hours, and traffic may be affected in the east- and westbound lanes.
