Shingles (Herpes Zoster) is a viral infection caused by the same virus that causes chickenpox. After a person recovers from chickenpox, usually in childhood, the virus remains dormant and can reactivate later in life.
Shingles most commonly affects people over the age of 60 and those with compromised immune system. Once reactivated, it causes inflammation, nerve pain and a blistering rash. Symptoms
