Orange County Fire Authority Chief Craig Covey will speak to the Sunshine Club on Friday, April 18, in Clubhouse 3, Room 2, at 10 a.m., to talk about Battery Safety All residents are welcome to join. The Sunshine Club requires no membership fees, but donations are welcome. People are asked to arrive promptly, Those who arrive late are asked to use the back door so as not to disturb the presentation.

Connecting pets with forever homes in LW


“It’s not just me helping the animals. It’s helping the humans too.” Long Beach resident Dina Michelle says she has a calling for matching people with pets needing forever homes. Her nonprofit organization, Wild Branch Rescue, has matched dogs and cats of all ages and sizes to Leisure World residents. “It’s such a special community here, it makes it a great place for animals,”

The Japanese American Club will meet April 19 in Clubhouse 3, Room 2, at 11:30 a.m. with guest speaker Kristen Maas-Kolberg, associate director of community outreach and advocacy for Alzheimer’s Orange County. She will speak about health education programs, brain health/risk reduction, care options, care management, clinical trials, planning for future and more. A bento box lunch is available
