Jack Hawn provided refreshments for 46 cribbage players Aug. 23. Margaret Smith assisted him in serving cake and ice cream to the group in celebration of a “Happy Cribbage Day.” Other snacks included chips and mixture of nuts. Winners for the day were: first place: Jesus Sosa with a score of 844; second: Franca Yeske with 825; third: Jorge Moy with 823; and fourth: Donna Morgan with 821.

The Leisure World Scrabble Club met on the first four Wednesdays in August. The members combined for 53 scores of 300 or higher and 27 “bingos.” (A bingo is the use of all seven tiles in one move.) Larry Edgar led with 12 scores of 300 or above. His best was a 432. He had one bingo. Diane Seeger topped 300 11 times. She had five bingos and a high score of 392. Bob Ruderman exceeded 300

Local writer will give talk at library Sept. 9 The Leisure World Library is rounding out its 2022Author-Speak series with a presentation by Michael McGrorty on Friday, Sept. 9 at 11 a.m. at Veterans Plaza next to the library. McGrorty has been many things: a private eye, a librarian, a federal investigator and an author. He’s known for his popular writings on the social media platform Nextdoor.

NEW CLUB The new Country Gospel Strings Club is looking for members. The first meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 7, in Clubhouse 3, Room 3, from 1-3:30 p.m. LW residents who enjoy singing gospel music but do not play a musical instrument or do play an instrument and enjoy group singing and strumming (guitar) are invited to the meeting. The Stamp & Collectibles Club will meet at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 7, in Clubhouse 3, Room 9. People are invited to bring items from their collections to show and discuss. Club members collect stamps, postcards, historic newspapers, rare books, vintage toys, or any other items of interest.
