LADIES GOLF Forty-four women turned out July 1 for the weekly tournament at the Leisure World golf course. Play for the day was low gross, low net and circle hole on No. 2. Three women—Sophia Kim, Nancy Smith and Sally Park— landed their balls in the circle. The LW Chess Club meets every Friday in Clubhouse 3, Room 7, from 1-4:30 p.m. Beginners lessons are available. Keep Alzheimer’s and dementia at bay by practicing this strategy game, proven to improve short and long-term memory and critical thinking skills. With the summer season and no league play, the shuffleboard courts are less hectic but open play continues Mondays and Wednesdays. One couple who has been participating for 11 years is Bob and Patty Petterson. The Pettersons moved into Leisure World 13 years ago. At the time, Bob was playing beach volleyball but they wanted to find an activity they could participate in together, so they gave shuffleboard

Cribbage Club


The Cribbage Club meets every Tuesday at noon in Clubhouse 1. Refreshments are served each week from noon-12:15 and anyone arriving by 12:15 will be assured a place to play. Brief announcements are made before play begins at 12:30. One dollar is collected from each player, and those finishing in the top four scores will receive prize money the following week.
