Overall winners in the eighttable championship game on Oct. 20 were Sibyl Smith and Al Appel with a 61.16% game. Second were Judy Jones and Alan Olan Olschwang with a 61.01% game; third were Larry Slutsky and Shmuel Fisher with a 58.29% game; fourth were Joan Tschirki and Bill Brooks with a 55.21% game. With a game 66.67%, Judy Jones and Al Appel were the overall winners in the eight-table championship

The topic this month is show and tell, where members show off a favorite coin and describe it. The Leisure World Scrabble Club met on all four Wednesdays in October. There were 62 scores above 300 (three of them above 400) and 39 “bingos”. A bingo is the use of all seven tiles in one move. Bob Ruderman and Suthy Edgar set a club record with a combined score of 853 in one game. Edgar had the high total for the month—a 474. She had one other score above 400, eight others higher
