The Leisure World Library will hold its first AuthorSpeak event of 2023 at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 5, next to the Library at Veterans Plaza. Edgar Award-winning author Naomi Hirahara will discuss her New York Times Best Mystery Book of 2021, “Clark and Division,” and its upcoming sequel, “Evergreen,” part two of the Japantown Mystery series. The tango class reviewed the “la puerta” and “open box,” focusing on differentiating between the two similar movements. Weekend night dances in May; next up: big band swing


The Velvetones Ballroom Dance Orchestra is Leisure World’s own professional big band, playing big band swing and jazz standards. They will perform Sunday, May 7 from 6-9 p.m. in Clubhouse 4 and again on May 21. Vinyl Rock wil perform on Saturday, May 25, at 7 p.m. in Clubhouse 4. The Orange Countybased band consists of nine members who passionately perform classic rock, Motown, and pop tunes
