••• Barbara Birdie O’Brien Bell 1927-2024 Barbara Birdie O’Brien Bell, beloved sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-greatgrandmother, and great-great-great-grandmother, passed away in the presence of family and in the comfort of her home on Feb. 17, 2024. Barbara worked as an accountant much of her adult life, but where she found her most joy was in her hobbies and her volunteer work, and especially as the matriarch of a family that grew to more than 40 strong. The second of four children, Barbara was born on July 30, 1927, in Great Falls, Montana, to Robert Emmett O’Brien and Birdie Jones. After staying in Montana with her older sister Pat and their father during the Great Depression, Barbara moved with Pat to Maywood, California, to live with their mother, stepfather, younger sister Dorothy and baby brother Victor. The draw of the Midwest— and her close connection with her best friend Nicky—saw Barbara move to Oklahoma for her high school years. After graduating, Barbara moved back to Maywood to begin her career and never left the state. (Though she did join Nicky in Oklahoma for their 50th high school reunion!) Shortly after returning to California, Barbara met Glenn Alan Moe, whom she married. They had three children, Don, Kathryn and Cheryl. Barbara remarried in 1963 to Bob Bell, with whom she had a daughter, Dianne. Bob and Barbara lived in Whittier much of their lives— becoming quite the formidable duo on SoCal bowling lanes— before moving to Leisure World in Seal Beach in 2003, where they lived together until Bob’s passing in 2015. Barbara remained in their Leisure World home, often volunteering at the book store, until her passing. Barbara is survived by her sister Dorothy, her four children and three stepchildren, and dozens and dozens of descendants. She may be gone but her legacy will live on for generations.

In memoriam Carl E. Hatheway Join family and friends in honoring and celebrating the remarkable life of Carl E. Hatheway, the cherished founder and director of the Velvetones and proud member of the Leisure World community The celebration of life service will be held on Sunday April 21, from 3-4:30 p.m. in Clubhouse 4. The family invites all to reminisce, share stories, and reflect on the inpact Carl had on everyone’s lives. Let’s come together to honor his memory and the joy he brought to his community. Following the celebration of life services, people are welcome to join the family for The Velevetones Dance at 6 p.m. in Clubhouse 4. Let’s continue to celebrate Carl’s legacy through music, dance and cherished memories.

Marcy Locy 1931-2024 Marcy Locy left this world on Feb. 26, 2024, to go be with the Lord. Marcy was born in St. Louis, Missouri, on Aug. 15, 1931. She lived most of her childhood in Hayes, Kansas, where she met her husband of 60 years, Don Locy. They moved to California in 1952 where they raised their six children. Don and Marcy owned and operated an insurance office in Anaheim for over 36 years. They were members of St. Justin Martyr Church, where five of their six children attended school. Marcy worked as an accountant at JC Penny’s shortly after moving to California. She stopped working to raise a family, and then returned to work with Don in the insurance office. Marcy and her son David moved to Leisure World in 2010, where she lived until her death. While she lived in Leisure World, Marcy was captain of Mutual 6, Cribbage Club member and winner, golfer, ping-pong player and Eucharistic minister and bereavement minister at Holy Family Church in Leisure World. Marcy was very active in her parish, Holy Family Catholic Church, where she served as a bereavement minister and Eucharistic minister. Marcy enjoyed being surrounded by her family. She is survived by her siblings, Don Depperschmidt (Houston, Texas) Marilyn Ball (Tulsa, Texas); her children, Robert Locy, Beverly Taylor, David Locy, Gregory Locy, and Anthony Locy; her 17 grandchildren and 17 greatgrandchildren. Marcy’shusband, Don Locy, and her daughter, Paula Lago, preceded her in death. There will be a memorial service at Holy Family Catholic Church, officiated by Father Joseph Son Nguyen, today, April 18, 2024. The Rosary viewing will be held at 1 p.m. and the mass will be held at 2 p.m. A reception will follow in Clubhouse 4.

Alicia De Anda 1940-2024 Alicia De Anda, a devoted Catholic, loving mother, sister, and aunt, passed away peacefully at the age of 83, surrounded by her family. She was born in Chihuahua, Mexico, and spent her formative years enjoying music, dancing, cinema, and the company of friends and family. After highschool she moved to southern California where she worked at a photography company making life long friendships. At a dance she met the love of her life, Simon, and raised three beautiful children. The family later relocated to Oklahoma, where she made lasting connections, before returning to California, where Alicia cherished the sunny weather. Ten years ago, she moved to Leisure World, where she actively contributed to her community at Holy Family Church and took pleasure in various activities such as dancing, the Sunshine Club, and the Coin Collection Club. Alicia is survived by her children, Alicia, Taylor, and Javier. As we bid farewell, may she rest in eternal peace

David Martin Corp 1946-2024 David Martin Corp, 78, was born February 13, 1946, in Van Nuys, California to Clarence Elmer Corp and Emma Frances Roach. David graduated to Heaven on March 20, 2024, in Los Alamitos, California. He and his wife, Linda, lived in Leisure World, Mutual 14, for the past 17 years. David proudly served in the United States Army in Viet Nam for two years and dedicated over 33 years of hard work while employed as a mockup builder in the Douglas/McDonald-Douglas/ Boeing Aircraft Company in Long Beach, California. David’s first love was his Lord Jesus Christ. He spent his life continually studying and learning about Jesus, and would always pray with anyone who needed intercession. He and his wife participated in many ministries together, their favorite being the marriage ministry. He enjoyed the friendships he made while serving. David was a loving husband, who treated his wife with gentleness and love. They spent their marriage on many adventures and in many ministries. He also was a loving family man, who thought highly of his sons and their families; always eager to see them and share time with them. He was interested in the lives of extended family, as well, and was always available to meet and share good times. He enjoyed his neighbors in his favorite hobby was working with wood, which he did his entire life. Dave’s services to celebrate his life will be on Saturday, April 20th at 11 a.m., at Calvary Cross Chapel, 16705 Gridley Rd, Cerritos, CA 90703.

Gertrude (Trudy) Brunsting Tr u d y ( Brouwer) Brunsting passed away on Feb. 22, 2024, after a long health battle. She had recently celebrated her 88th birthday with her entire family. Trudy was born in Hudson, South Dakota, on the family farm on a snowy February day. Her parents later moved to Rock Valley, Iowa, where she grew up and lived both on a farm and in town. After graduating from Western Christian High School, Trudy worked at the town drug store until her high school sweetheart, Alvin (Al) Brunsting, proposed. Once married, they moved many times throughout the years, from the east coast to the midwest, and on to California. When Trudy and Al first retired, they spent a short time in Arizona. Finally, in 2002 they settled in Leisure World in Seal Beach, California, to be near children and grandchildren. Trudy lost the love of her life, Al, in 2011, after many years of marriage. She loved to play games, sing, walk, knit and crochet, garden, spend time with friends/neighbors, family, and her grandchildren. Trudy also enjoyed potlucks, and having breakfast with friends. She attended Cornerstone Church in Long Beach, California. She is survived by four daughters, three granddaughters, three step-grandchildren, four step-great-grandchildren and two step great-great grandchildren, and also a brother with his family. Trudy will be missed greatly. Her family rejoices in the hope that they have in Jesus— that they will one day see her again in Heaven, and be reunited.
