OC Vector Control to treat areas near LW
From Oct. 7-9, the OC Mosquito and Vector Control District will apply a pesticide that targets adult mosquitoes to an area four miles from Leisure World. The treatment is meant to address mosquito abundance and lower the risk of mosquito-borne diseases like West Nile virus.
The application will focus on a targeted area near Interstate 405 and Valley View Street, which contains a northwestern portion of the Seal Beach National Wildlife Refuge, as well as parts of Garden Grove, Los Alamitos and Westminster. Trucks will apply the adulticide from midnight to 5:30 a.m. on the designated days. The ultralow volume treatment uses high-pressure equipment to break liquids into microscopic droplets that remain suspended in the air and coat surfaces. At the planned application rate, the treatment will cause no harm to people, pets, fruit trees, vegetable gardens, fishponds, or bees, according to the vector control district.
