The LW America First Republican Club will meet on Wednesday, Oct. 21, in Clubhouse 3, Room 2. Social time begins at 4:30 p.m. and the business meeting will start at 5. Members are asked to bring their favorite hors d’oeuvres or high quality treats to share.
The meeting will end a little early so members can head over to Clubhouse 4 to attend the 6 p.m. town hall hosted by Supervisor Janet Nguyen and State Senator Tony Strickland. They will provide updates on what’s happening at the Orange County Board of Supervisors and the State Senate. Seal Beach Mayor Lisa Landau, Mayor Pro-Tem Ben Wong, and Councilman Nathan Steele will also discuss community matters at the meeting. This town hall is open to all Leisure World residents.
The America First Republican Club’s mission is to educate, engage and activate members in their duty as citizens, including working to elect like-minded candidates to local, state and federal offices.
The club’s information booth is set up outside of Clubhouse 6 every Monday, Wednesday and Friday in October from 9-11 a.m. People should be receiving their vote-by-mail ballots as early as Oct. 6, and club volunteers are eager to answer any questions about the ballots.
Those have not received their ballots yet can ask a club member to check their ballot status or do it themselves at www.ocvote.gov/vlt by entering the voters date of birth and last four numbers of their drivers license number.
People can stop by the information booth to get a pre-marked sample ballot to help make voting easier. The boxes are already marked for the America First Republican Club’s endorsed candidates and whether to retain certain supreme and appellate justices, as well as how to vote on all 14 propositions. People can also pickup additional Republican Club Voter Guides for family and friends. Club canvassers found that the informative guide designed by Club Secretary Susan Kelleghan has become a very popular item among Leisure World voters. Residents who have issues seeing the small boxes on the ballots, or problems with their hands that make filling in the boxes difficult, can stop by the Republican Booth so a club volunteer can help them mark their ballots. Anyone who needs help and cannot visit the club booth can call Hope Horning at 714-833-1654.
Since ballot harvesting is legal in California, the Republican Club is harvesting ballots at the booth. Voters who do not want to mail their ballot or use the yellow drop box near the Amphitheater can bring their unsigned and undated ballots to the booth to complete, seal, date and sign. A club officer will hand carry the ballot to the Registrar of Voters office in Santa Ana.
