On Sept. 11, members learned that the club lost 21 pounds in the past week. Susan Miller was named the biggest loser with a 2.5-pound loss. Miller said she ate smaller portions, added nuts to her diet, and exercisedmore. Both Miller and Cheri Ramirez met their shortterm goals and were rewarded $10 each. Joy Nasser spoke about the importance of having more fun and getting more joy out of life. She said that fun and j oy are vital ingredients for mental health, relationships and creativity. She said that when people engage in activities that bring them joy, their brains release feel-good chemicals like dopamine and serotonin that reduce stress, improve mood, and help regulate emotions. In other words, fun makes life feel more manageable, and helps to remind people that life isn’t about surviving, but also about thriving. Nasser added that relaxing and laughing may also help lower blood pressure, support a stronger immune system and reduce appetite.

Rich shared the weekly food for thought: “Tips for journaling: if you bite it, write it. If you snack it, track it. If you nibble it, scribble it. If you drink it, ink it. Grab your pencil before your utensil.”
