Lankford scores sandy eagle
LW MEN'S GOLF LEAGUE
Sixteen members of the Leisure World Men’s Golf League challenged the Meadowlark Golf Course in Huntington Beach on Sept. 21.
With good weather and course conditions, 11 of the 16 golfers scored net under par with an exceptional 11 under 60 by Chris Lankford, and 10 under 61 by Steve Earl.
Lankford also scored a rare eagle by holing out a bunker shot on the 228-yard par 4 fifth hole after a 210-yard drive. Eagles are rare enough, but a sandy eagle is incredibly special.
There were nine birdies—three by Jim Goltra, two by Clay Fisher, and one each by Lankford, Bruno Santillo, Earl and Kyle Van. The three closest to the pin challenges were won by Sergio Borbon, Goltra and Earl. Lankford and Tom Ross had fewest putts for the round.
Net score equals gross minus handicap.
A flight winners (handicaps of 1-19): Lankford, first place; Earl, second; Van, third; Goltra, fourth; Dave LaCascia, fifth; Fujio Norihiro, sixth; Gary Stivers, Fisher, Santillo and Sam Choi, seventh.
B flight winners (handicaps of 20 and higher): Dom Bautista, first place; Tom Ross, second; Borbon, third; Randy Massaro, fourth; Mike Jimenez and Bob Munn, fifth.
The league plays every Monday at four local courses, all within 15-20 minutes of Leisure World. Advance league reservations are required with a sign-up sheet available at each round.
There is a prize pool for each round that players are not obligated to enter. Those interested in playing can contact Gary Stivers at 714-313-3697 or Dave LaCascia at 801-674-5974.
