The Art League will meet Tuesday, Oct. 13, at 6 p.m. in Clubhouse 4 for an oil painting demonstration by Michaela Yoro, a Southern California artist specializing in contemporary realism oil painting. All are welcome.
The right composition of any art creation can determine its acceptance or rejection, success or failure. At the league’s Sept. 8 meeting, Southern California artist Katie Stubblefield conducted a workshop in composition for approximately 50 club members and their guests.
Defining composition as a learned skill rather than a talent, Stubblefield exposed the group to three composition styles—the pyramid, the s-curve, and the l-shape. Following the instruction, people created collages made from magazine clippings onto pieces of cardstock, using scissors and glue. Walking around the room holding aloft and praising attendee’s work, Stubblefield shared fresh examples of each style composition style.
Displayed on the west side of the main hall in Clubhouse 4 was artwork created by members of the Zentangle class. Zentangle is an easy-to-learn, relaxing and fun way to create images by drawing structured patterns. The method combines the concepts of “zen,” the meditative balancing of the mind, with “tangle,” drawing repetitive patterns. The class meets every Monday from 12:30-2 p.m. in the Art Room of Clubhouse 4. New class members are provided with a beginner’s packet which costs $1.
On display on the east side of the clubhouse were art pieces created by league members who compete for “Most Popular” art. Marilyn Jonas won for her watercolor, “The Last Wave.”
Artist Katie Stubblefield gave a workshop on composition. People then used those new techniques to create collages.
"Last Wave" by Marilyn Jo- nas was voted “Most Popu lar" piece of art on Sept. 8.
