LW Men’s Golf Club
A best ball shotgun scramble will be played on Wednesday, Sept. 30. Sign-ups are available at all men’s and women’s tournaments until Sept. 28. Golfers must have a club handicap to play.
There will be a free potluck picnic immediately after, at approximately 1 p.m., in Clubhouse 2. Sign-ups for the potluck are available. Main courses, salads, bread, sides and desserts are needed. Drinks and utensils will be provided. Women’s and men’s club members and significant others are welcome at the picnic.
Forty-five men of the LW Men’s Golf Club met at the Turtle Lake Golf Course on Sept. 9. It was extremely hot, and with high humidity and no breeze, it was miserable. The continuing hot and dry weather has resulted in some bare spots on fairways, several greens with weeds, and pock-marked tees.
The golfers teed off starting at 7:30 a.m. with each man competing for best net scores, four circle holes, and two closest to the pin challenges. Nineteen of the 45 men scored net at or under par. There were 51 birdies and 11 circle hole winners.
Closest to the pin on the 100-yard hole No. 3 was Dave Winn at 1 foot 9 inches, and on No. 12 it was Jae Choi at 15 feet. Average net score for the round was 56.2 or just more than two strokes over par. Low net score for the round was Dave Winn at 7 under par 47, followed by Brad Myers at 5 under 49. Low gross for the round was Bill Lyons at 2 under 52, followed by Kevin Childress at 1 over 55, and Myers and Choi at 2 over 56.
Net score equals gross minus handicap. A flight winners (handicaps of 0-5): Choi, first place; Lyons, second; Fujio Norihiro, third; Childress, fourth; Alan Sewell, fifth; Dong On Kim, sixth.
B flight winners (handicaps of 6-10): Myers, first place; Steve Walker and Rolando Ramirez, second; Ralph Koizumi, third; Gene Archambault, fourth; Tom Ebert, fifth; Young Lee, Bruce Bowles and Bud Young, sixth.
C flight winners (handicaps of 11-18): Winn, first place; Todd Chidester, second; Joon Sup Yoon and Won H. Park, third; Noe Alcaraz, Mike Fennessy, Scott Tuchfarber and Darry Holten, fourth; John Zimmerman, fifth; Won G. Park, sixth; Bob Boyle, seventh; Paul Shellenberger, eighth.
The next men’s tournament will be on Sept. 23. Those scheduled or who plan to play in any tournament and cannot should contact Alan Sewell at 541-324-8558 or Dave LaCascia at 801-674-5975 as soon as possible. Arrive 10-15 minutes prior to scheduled tee time and be ready to play. Check bulletin boards for the tournament schedule if there are questions about starting times. Repair ball marks on the greens.
